Biography

Emma Elliott, Founder and Artistic Director of Emma Elliott Dance, created this Christian dance company out of a burning passion inside of her to create dances which have biblical scripture as the basis of their choreography in hopes to encourage and inspire her audience. Originally from Summerton, SC, she moved to King, NC when she was 16 years old. She knew that God was calling her to be a dancer when she highlighted Psalm 149:3 - "Let him be praised in the dance". So, she attended the University of North Carolina Greensboro and graduated in May 2013, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts with a focus on performance and choreography. This journey was far from easy. There were constant obstacles to overcome and individuals who told her she wasn't good enough, that she should give up, or that she should change what she wanted to do in life. But she didn't. She persevered through rejection and continues to never accept no for an answer. One of her highlight performances during her collegiate career was performing an original work choreographed by Larry Keigwin (Bolero). Also, she performed in an original work by Grammy Nominee Jeffrey Page as well as choreography by David Parsons. Performing is her passion, which is why she was in over 15 different concerts (and many informal showings) including dances choreographed by her professors, graduate students, peers, and in her own work in her senior B.F.A. Thesis concert. She is a two-year recipient of the summer Dorm Counselor Scholarship where she attended the American Dance Festival in 2013 & 2014. At the American Dance Festival, she performed in dances by Joanna Kotze and Beth Gill and was able to take classes from renowned choreographers and companies. Since moving to New York City in August 2013, she has danced for several smaller dance companies, performed in several workshops for The Cunningham Trust, and worked closely with and performed works by Twyla Tharp during her 2014 Winter Intensive as well as performing for many freelance choreographers. She is also a performer and tours as a soloist/group dancer for DM Dance Company. Her choreography has been performed at The Kraine Theater in the East Village, HERE Arts Theater in Soho, the Village Pour House in East Village, and the Artist in Flight Choreographer's Showcase on the Upper West Side. In 2016, she premiered her first full-length show Revealing by Emma Elliott Dance at The Salvatore Theater at Peridance Capezio Center. She is looking forward to seeing what God does with this company and her career as a dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher.
